History of Canadian Tire






Canadian Tire is the one of the largest and recognized brands in Canada. It starts with the name of Hamilton tires and Garage Ltd. in 1922. It starts on Gerard and Hamilton streets in Toronto by two brothers. In 1923 it sold to Billes brothers and then they started under a new name called Canadian Tire Corporation. The official name "Canadian Tire" chose in 1927. Then in 1928 J.W and A.J. Billes make their first catalogue which includes tire values on one side and a map of Ontario on back. In 1934 the first store was open in Hamilton which is the first official designated Canadian Tire Associate Store. After this store its main store moves into a supermarket located in Yonge in 1937. 

Canadian Tire becomes more bigger day by day, in 1958 it opens first Gas Bar. They open first distribution center in Toronto in 1963. By 1968, Midland was Servicing Canadian Tire Associates stores all over Ontario then becomes a Canadian Tire Acceptance Limited.  Canadian Tire celebrates their Golden jubilee in 1972 and opens it first store in Saskatchewan. The first phase of Canadian Tire's new Distribution Centre is open Brampton in 1973. Canadian tire continues to grow in Ontario and Quebec. In 1995 Canadian Tire firstly launch their Canadian Tire options MasterCard. The next Generation store format starts in 2000. Also they starts online shopping. Now Canadian Tire acquires The Forzani Group Ltd.

  3. That’s the Hamilton downtown store on Main Street - the store is still in operation. Photo looks to be from the 1960’s.
